The Telecommunication Risk Management Association (TRMA) Honors ID Analytics' Mike Cook with the 2006 President's Award

LAS VEGAS, NV, February 14, 2007 — The Telecommunication Risk Management Association (TRMA) announced today at the TRMA Spring 2007 Conference that Mike Cook, chief operating officer and co-founder of ID Analytics, Inc., the Identity Risk Management company, is the recipient of the 2006 President's Award.

The President's Award is annually presented at TRMA's first conference of the year to recognize the individual who had the best presentation at one of the three TRMA events in the previous year. Throughout 2006, attendees at TRMA events vote on the speakers' appropriateness, relevancy, quality as well as if they would recommend the presentation to a peer. At the end of the year, the TRMA Board of Directors are presented with a ballot containing the top six presenters and the Board selects the final winner. Past recipients include Rebecca Cheek, Director of Change & Learning, Southwest Airlines for 2005, Ronni Burns and Rich Detura, both from CitiCards for 2004 and Frank Whyte of Frank Whyte Education Services for 2003.

"TRMA is proud to present the President's Award to Mike Cook recognizing him as the best speaker in 2006 because his presentation 'Anatomy of a Data Breach' provided tremendous insight into data breaches," said Kellie Berndt, TRMA's president and T-Mobile's Executive Director of Operations. "The presentation was based on an analysis of four separate data breaches, covering approximately half a million identities. From his presentation our conference attendees learned a great deal about the connection between data breaches and identity theft and how technology can help find organized misuse related to a data breach."

Cook's captivating presentation was given to more than 125 delegates in February 2006 at the TRMA Spring Conference. The presentation explores the types of security breaches, from accidental and unintentional to intentional and malicious, and how the combination of the breach type and the data involved are metrics by which to measure risk and potential for harm. This presentation is based on ID Analytics' National Data Breach Analysis, which was an in-depth data study that examined the real risks associated with data breaches. The study revealed the calculated fraudulent misuse rate for consumer victims of the analyzed breach with the highest rate of misuse was 0.098 percent-less than one in 1,000 identities. This analysis helps to answer some of the most pressing questions about recent system intrusions, security lapses and the issue of identity theft and identity fraud. "The presentation was successful because the content was inspired by ID Analytics' team of scientists, a group that is dedicated to analyzing identity elements against our ID Network®, the identity fraud prevention system, and finding solutions to combat all challenges related to identity risk," stated Cook. "Based on the study, we can now prepare organizations of all sizes and types should a breach occur. And if a breach happens, our services help protect their brands and offer assistance directly to the consumers that need it."

Cook has decades of experience in risk and fraud-related roles in senior executive positions at ID Analytics, Experian, Evoke Software, Innovis and American Express. He is the author of ID Analytics' National Fraud Ring Analysis and National Data Breach Analysis and was an expert witness at the Congressional "Oversight Hearing on the Academic and Legal Implications of VA's Data Loss".
