Identity Theft Expert Thomas Oscherwitz Joins ID Analytics as Director of Government Relations and Privacy
Pioneer Brings Deep Government Experience to Identity Risk Management Leader
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 25, 2004–ID Analytics, Inc., the Identity Risk Management technology company, today announced that Thomas Oscherwitz has been appointed director of government relations and privacy. Oscherwitz joins ID Analytics from the office of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Cal.) where he served as counsel to Feinstein and represented her on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology, and Homeland Security.
In this newly created position at ID Analytics, Oscherwitz will monitor pending identity theft legislation and the implementation of such key laws as the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT) and the USA Patriot Act. Oscherwitz will also actively manage privacy issues, playing a key role in advising ID Analytics' partners and clients on issues of compliance, legislation and privacy.
"Tom brings unmatched legislative expertise on identity fraud issues to ID Analytics. On behalf of Senator Feinstein, he has participated in every major legislative debate on identity fraud that has come before the Senate, and helped draft key fraud provisions of the FACT Act," said Steven Gal, ID Analytics' co-founder and general counsel. "With the imminent implementation of the FACT Act and our exclusive focus on effectively managing identity risk, Tom is a perfect addition to our team. He brings an incomparable wealth of knowledge and expertise on issues that are at the forefront of our business, and are of top concern to our clients."
"After working on virtually every piece of Federal identity theft and privacy legislation over the past five years, I've become pretty passionate about these problems and the impact they have on consumers and businesses," said Oscherwitz. "Joining ID Analytics allows me to be on the leading edge of the technology debate. It's a great opportunity to help protect businesses from identity risk and protect consumers from becoming victims, and from having their privacy compromised."
Prior to working for Feinstein, Oscherwitz was legislative assistant for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Cal.) where he served as an aide on the House Science Committee and Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law. He also worked as a research fellow in the Program on Medical Ethics for the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.A. from Stanford University. He is a member of the California and Washington D.C. Bars.
Oscherwitz is a frequent public speaker on the topics of identity theft and risk management. In recent years he has addressed the American Bar Association's annual meeting, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Symposium on Cyber Security Risk Management, Privacy & American Business, and the Social Security Inspector General's Office Conference on Identity Theft.
