A 21st Century Tug-of-War Between Businesses and Consumers
Today's business and financial organizations are caught between a proverbial rock and a hard place. Increasingly, these organizations have more and more consumer data with which to inform prudent decision-making, but struggle to turn this data into insight while also defending consumer privacy and safeguarding corporate brand reputations against the growing risk of consumer data theft and misuse.

This seemingly irreconcilable situation was discussed for a sixth year at our recent Identity 2008 conference, and echoed by a variety of speakers from both the public and private sectors. I am increasingly convinced that, when it comes to the tug-of-war between the information needs of businesses and the privacy concerns of consumers, the elephant in the room is the multibillion dollar data-brokering industry.  Read more...
